Afgelopen weekend zijn we met een kano gaan kamperen in het national park Témiscouata. Alles in de kano en peddelen maar. Na 3 uur kwamen we aan bij een plek waar 5 kampeerplekjes zijn. Tent opgezet, genoten van de rust en nog een toch gemaakt zonder de baggage.
De 2de dag werden we wakker met regen maar ook dat hebben we overleefd. Het was een heerlijk lang weekend even weg.

Last weekend we went canoe-camping in the national parc Témiscouata. All the stuff in the canoe and off we went. After 3 hours or so we arrived at the campsite with 5 small spots. We put up the tent and enjoyed the peacefulness. Later we went for another canoe trip without luggage.
The second day we woke up with rain but we survived that as well.
We had a nice long weekend away.

We hebben nu onze eigen moestuin in de gemeenschappelijke moestuin van La Pocatière.
Daar groeit nu verschillende soorten sla, bonen, courgettes, tomaten, komkommers, paprika's en nog meer. En niet te vergeten andijvie.

Yogurt making

Since a few weeks we are making our own yogurt. I didn't know that it was so easy.

First you warm up (bio) milk up to 110F or 43 C.

First you warm up (bio) milk up to 110F or 43 C. Then you add 2 or 3 tablespoons of (bio) yoghurt that you bought from the store or from earlier made yogurt.
  



Then you put everything in a container, put the lit on and put the container in a "yogurt maker"  that keeps the milk at the same temperature. You leave it there for at least 6-8 hours.



After 6-8 hours the yogurt is ready but very fluid.

Then we strain it to get a nice thick yogurt. Its delicious!









Vacation part 2

Na de eerste 5 dagen op een eilandje doorgebracht te hebben zijn we vervolgens naar een andere regio gegaan waar meer bergen en meren zijn (regio Estrie).
Daar hebben we weer heerlijk gekampeerd en gewandeld al was het weer minder goed dan de eerste week. Muggen en kleine zwarte vliegjes die bijten waren veelvuldig aanwezig, om gek van te worden. Soms maar gewoon in de auto gaan zitten eten voor een beetje rust.
We hebben meerdere bergtoppen van ca. 1200 m beklommen. Aangezien het nog voorseizoen was was het overal heerlijk rustig. Nu zit onze vakantie erop en is Serge sinds een week fulltime aan het werk.

After we spend the first 5 days at a little island we moved the second part to a region with mountains and lakes (Estrie region).
Again we have been camping and walking, but the weather was more rainy then the first part. There were a lot of mosquitos and small black flies that bite, I got crazy of them. Sometimes I moved into the car to eat quietly my dinner.
We climbed several mountain tops of 1200 meter. The vacation didn't started yet so it was pretty quiet everywhere.
Now our vacation is over and Serge started to work fulltime last week.

When you life in Quebèc and you are renting a house/appartment or a room and you want to move you do that on the first of july.  Your renting contract is always 12 months, not flexible at all if you ask me. So last weekend and today we see these moving trucks everywhere.

Vacation part 1

We zijn net terug van een kleine 2 weken vakantie.
De eerste week zijn we naar Île aux Lièvres geweest. Een klein eilandje in de St. Lawrence rivier 60 km hier vandaan. Na een boottochtje van ca. 15 minuten kwamen we aan op het eilandje. Er zijn alleen wandelpaden dus geen wegen en/of fietspaden. Er is geen winkel oid alleen ca. 20 kleine kampeerplekjes, 6 kamers in een herberg en 4 huisjes te huur.
Hier hebben we 5 dagen rongewandeld over het strand en door het bos, heerlijk rustig en gelukkig hadden we mooi weer. 's Àvonds bij het vuur van het gesprokkelde hout dat Serge elke dag van het strand meenam.

We are just back from our almost 2 weeks vacation. The first week we spend our time at Île aux Lièvres. Its a small island in the St. Lawrence river 60 km away from here. After a 15 minutes boat ride we arrived at the island. There are only hiking paths, so no roads or bikepaths. There are no shops and only ca. 20 small ten spots, 6 rooms in a hostel and 4 cabins for rent.
We spend 5 days hiking on the beach and through the forest, nice, peacefull and quiet. And we were very lucky with the weather. In the evenings we spend our time with a fire with the wood that Serge collected every day at the beach.

Kolibri

Vandaag waren we op bezoek bij een vriend, kijk ik uit het raam en wat zie ik daar in de bloeiende kastanje boom?? Ja een kolibri.
Ik wist dat ze hier waren maar had ze nog niet erg veel gezien. Ik had geen camera bij me maar op onderstaande fotos krijg je een goed beeld. Veel mensen hier hebben zo'n Kolibri lokker in de tuin hangen.

We visited a friend today. I looked out of the window and what did I see in the flowering chestnut tree? Yes a hummingbird. I knew they are here but haven't seen then a lot yet. I didn't have my camera with me but on the photos below you get a nice impression. A lot of people have this hummingbird attractor hanging in their garden.

First bike trip

Afgelopen zondag mijn eerste echt fietstocht gemaakt voor dit jaar. Met de wind in de rug, zon in mijn gezicht, een vers olijven brood in mijn fietstas heerlijk 35 km op mijn dooie akkertje naar huis gefietst. Ben op plekken geweest die ik nog niet eerder had gezien. Er zaten hele mooie stukken bij.

Last sunday I had my first real bike trip of this year. With the wind in the back , the sun in my face, a fresh olive bread in my bag I biked easy going the 35 km to our house. I have been in places I hadnt seen before, very beautifull.

Poutine

Een patatje kennen ze hier in Quebec ook maar dan wel op een Quebecoise manier, namelijk zo Poutine. Ik heb het 1x geprobeerd maar vond het niet te eten.

They know the french fries here as well but then in a sepcial way thats called Poutine. I tried it ones but didnt like it.

Poutine is een gerecht bestaande uit friet bedekt met verse kaas, gedrenkt in jus en eventueel nog extra ingrediënten.^[1] Het is een typisch Canadees gerecht en het geniet vooral grote populariteit in Quebec waar het wordt gezien als het nationale gerecht.

Summer?

Sinds enkele dagen lijkt het hier wel zomer, zowel gisteren als vandaag kwam de thermometer tot 28C. We hebben een blauwe hemel, veel zon en heerlijk warm weer.
Een mooie reden om weer eens een wandeling te maken. We zijn naar de rivier gegaan waar we in de winter hebben sneeuw gewandeld. Nu vanwege de smeltende sneeuw veel water in de rivier.

Since a few days its looks summer here. Yesterday and today the thermometer got up to 28C. We have blue sky, a lot of sun and its nice and warm.
A good reason to go for a hike. We went to the river where we went snowshoeing last winter. Because of the melting snow there was a lot of water in the river.
